Late To The ________ Bandwagon.

A little bit of background:

I'm usually late to bandwagons.  Whether it's sports, style, or music.

Today's confession is that I'm totally late to the Lily Allen bandwagon.  "Fuck you, fuck you very, very much..."  Lol, love it!

Okay, a few more confessions, I was late to the Regina Spektor and Amy Winehouse bandwagon as well.  Yes I'm a delayed fan, but a fan nonetheless.  I would like to give a special shout out to my bestie who tried to get me on their bandwagon much sooner but my stubborn self was... well stubborn. :)

Why The Tears?

This morning I watched one of Oprah's Super Soul Sunday episodes. The actor Rainn Wilson was on to discuss his project Soul Pancake. Rainn said that art or the act of art is like praying to God. At the end of the show they had two video shorts of Soul Pancake at work. One video had people on the street taking picture frames and framing something they found beautiful. The other video was of an Air Orchestra on the street. They had chairs labeled with specific instruments setup as a orchestra. Soon people from the street filled the chairs and began playing their air instruments along to background music. Seeing their initial hesitation, then smiles, then joy, to finally surprise on how much they enjoyed that experience stirred so much emotion within me. I was smiling and feeling the joy right along with them. Then when it was over I was overcome with sadness or longing and started to cry. Not just a tear but a big emotional type of crying that came with many tears. Why did this happen? Why did this huge ball of emotion grow within me so that I ended up crying like I lost someone I loved? I don't know. It's something I have to think about.

What I do know is that a couple of months ago I was at the Hollywood Bowl with friends. I didn't know the lineup but it was just a day to be with friends. The night ended up being a fundraiser night for the Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles (YOLA). Halfway through the show YOLA students played for us. It took me by surprise and I was immediately transported to my youth orchestra days. Those were happy days for me and I felt the same emotions then as the ones I felt this morning watching the Air Orchestra. Only I held back the tears then.

I need to think about this. I need to listen to what the universe is telling me, to what my soul is telling me. Then I need to take action.

Buñuelos

Buñuelos are a tasty Mexican treat that are made from flour tortillas and typically eaten during the winter holidays or in cold weather. There are many versions of this treat. You can fry the flour tortillas and sprinkle them with cinnamon and sugar and enjoy. Another version is (the one I grew up eating) you fry the flour tortillas then break them up in medium sized pieces. On the side you make a sweet broth. The sweet broth is made using water, piloncillo, cinnamon, and cloves. You pour the very warm broth into a bowl then throw in pieces of the fried flour tortilla. Enjoy!

Coláche

Coláche is one of my favorite dishes growing up. So simple yet so delicious. Now that I think about it this dish was a very economical dish to make. A few dollars at most and mom would feed herself and her four daughters.

Coláche is a simple vegetarian dish. Pick your choice of zucchini or squash, a tomato, onion (I added onion but mom's recipe didn't include it because she hates cooked onion) and cotija cheese.

4 - small zucchini / squash or to taste, chopped into small cubes
1 - medium tomato, chopped
1/4 - medium white onion or to taste, chopped
5 oz of cotija cheese cubed
1 tbs of oil
Salt and pepper to taste

Heat oil over medium heat then add zucchini, tomato, onion, salt & pepper. Cover and steam cook until zucchini is done. About 6-7 minutes. Turn off heat, uncover and add the cotija cheese and cover again. Let stand for 5 minutes. Perfect time to heat your tortillas and set the table. Serve with jalapeños or a spicy salsa on the side. Enjoy!

Tilapia with Brussels Sprouts

Mmm... glad I'm cooking again. Dinner was pretty easy.

Tilapia: lemon, herb/spice blend, tomatoes and lots of capers. I love capers! Bake for 10-15 min in toaster oven at 350°.

Brussels Sprouts: two tablespoons of coconut oil, pepper, a little salt, and same herb/spice blend. Sauté until lightly brown or tender.

Yummy!!

Download, download, download...

So I got stood up - sort of. This person cancelled on me last minute. I was really looking forward to our evening together and then I get a text saying he's really tired and doesn't want to be rude by falling asleep on me.

Download, download, download...

Trying to be positive and not give off negative energy. I truly understand how he's feeling. I've been there before. I guess I'm upset because I haven't seen him in a month and I've missed him.

I'm feeling this way because I want a serious relationship. I really enjoy being with him but I need... no, I want a relationship. I want to prepare cute snacks, wine or dinner for someone who will value me and my time. I want them to miss me too.

So in the meantime I will drink the wine alone, enjoy my snacks, and wait until next week to see this guy. I know what you're thinking but like I said earlier, I do enjoy being with him.  I just need to remember that he's not interested in something serious.  So as hard as it may be I must remember that with him I can't get too emotionally involved.  That's it. No feelings... This will be hard. :(

You may be wondering what the whole download thing is about. It's a long story but I'm essentially trying to open myself up to my destiny aka God's blessings. I can only do this by being positive and not allowing negative thoughts or feelings stop those things from coming to me. I got "download" from Marianne Williamson. I use it as a reminder to be positive so good things can come to me.
